Copy Slides from PowerPoint Templates

Friday, April 30th, 2010

One of the common questions we receive is how do I use one slide from one of our templates in another presentation or a different PowerPoint template.  It is easy to copy slides between presentations.  I’ll use a couple of our PowerPoint templates as examples in this tutorial.

I’m going to use PowerPoint 2007 for this tutorial but the process is the same for PowerPoint 2010.

Step 1

Open up the presentation you are making and the template you want to copy a slide from.

Step 2

In the template, right click on the slide in the slides tab or in the slide sorter view you wish to copy and choose copy from the menu.  See illustration below.

Step 3

Paste your slide you just copied in the presentation you are working on.  Right click in the slides tab or the slide sorter view at the place you wish to insert (paste) the slide.

Step 4

Click the “Paste Options” icon which appear beneath the slide you just pasted.  By default the slide is formatted according to the settings of your current presentation.  In order for the slide to retain the look of the slide from the template you copied from, you need to tell PowerPoint to use the formatting from the slides source.

In the Paste Options you can choose “Keep Source Formatting”.  This retains the format from the template you copied from.

Nice and simple right?  Go ahead and start putting together your favorite slides from all of our templates.

Choosing a static or animated layout

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

We recently had a question about how to remove the animation from one of our animated PowerPoint templates.   We utilize the themes feature of PowerPoint 2007 and 2010.  In most of our animated templates for PowerPoint we have included two complete themes.  The first theme is the animated theme, but there is also a complete set of layouts (a theme) which has all the animations removed and replaced with static imagery.

So how do you change between one and the other you ask?  It’s really easy.  Simply right click on top of the slide you wish to change the layout on and choose “Layout” from the menu that appears.

Here is a screen-shot of what you should see:

Choosing a Layout theme in PowerPoint 2007 and 2010

Most of our animated PowerPoint templates come with up to 19 pre-designed slide layouts.  Then each of those layouts has an animated and a static versions.

All of these layouts can be edited to your needs in the Slide Master view.  Find the slide master under the View tab.

I’ve found that its best to save your animated slides for special occasions where you need to call attention or you want to add a wow effect.  For most of your slides it is best to stick with a static page.  With PresenterMedia templates its easy to switch between a static and animated slide with a simple click of the mouse.

New Graduation Clipart

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I’ve started to get graduation announcements in the mail, so the end of the school year is upon us.  I took some time today to make up a few new graduation clipart images.  I wanted to build some images that indicated the importance of a good education and the doors that are opened with a degree.  I still might make a few more so if you have any specific ideas around graduation imagery please let me know.
