It's been nearly 400 years since the first Thanksgiving. Many things have certainly changed, from the clothes to the culture and cuisine. One thing remains, however; it's all about being thankful. This year may be difficult for some to be thankful for, but we are thankful to everyone who has touched our lives this year, from customers to vendors, friends and family, and so many more. So thank you to those of you reading this week's blog post. With that, let's talk about Turkey Safety!

CDC Thanksgiving Safety Guidelines
The CDC posted an extensive list of guidelines for folks who are seeing other people this holiday season. Appropriately, the link title section is called "Daily Life Coping, Holidays". How perfect is that for a title this time of year when we are all trying to cope? Anyway, here are a few of the Thanksgiving Safety tips from the CDC recommendations if you are getting together in person.
General Notes
Wear a mask
- 2 or more layers
- over your nose and mouth
- snug against the sides of your face and under your chin
Socially Distance - 6 feet away from others who do not live with you
Wash your hands
- Use soap and water, wash for at least 20 seconds (roughly the ABC song)
- Keep hand sanitizer with you to use when unable to wash with soap and water.
- Hand sanitizer should be at least 60% alcohol
Attending a Gathering - Traveling
- Check travel restrictions of the state(s) you're traveling through before departing
- Always wear a mask in public settings and public transportation
- Stay at least 6 feet apart from anyone who is not in your household
- Wash your hands often or use hand sanitzer
- Avoid touching your mask, eyes, nose and mouth
- Bring extra supplies, such as masks and hand sanitizer
- Try to drive with no stops to a destination
- Stay in a house or cabin (rather than a hotel chain)
- Bring your own food and drinks
Attending a Gathering - Once you're There
- Wear a face mask and keep your distance as you are able
- Bring hand sanitizer in case soap is unavailable
- Try to spend time outdoors instead of inside to help prevent close contact.
Hosting a Gathering
- Consider using disposable cups/plates/silverware to prevent cross-contamination.
- Provide plenty of soap for guests to use, placed at each sink in the home.
- Consider hosting as much outdoor as possible (weather dependent).
Alternatives to Traditional Thanksgiving - Hunker Down or Dash and Dine!
- If you're the chef of the family and are up for it, consider making Thanksgiving and delivering it to your friends and family in your area, but in storage containers like the one below. It might add miles to your car, but it'll add smiles to your loved ones.

- Host a virtual Thanksgiving (Zoom, Facebook Rooms, Google Hangouts/Duo, Facetime) and show off what everyone made along with the recipes they used (copy/paste can turn your family's 2020 apocalypse Thanksgiving into a recipe book with photos to look back at next year, use Shutterfly, Google Photos, or a Facebook album)
